Application Assignment #1 Poll Everywhere
https://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/h1pHHqq71M7yWir
This is a Poll Everywhere application assignment that I completed for my mentor teacher. She described to me that her students struggle with understanding and describing character relationships in a way that goes beyond "good" and "bad". Because of this, I created a poll that allows students to respond to the question, "What are some adjectives that can be used to describe relationships between characters? *Please include whether these are positive or negative*." The point of this poll was to allow students the opportunity to brainstorm a variety of ways that they can describe the relationship between characters, without using the generic "good" or "bad" response.
I chose to do an online poll because i think that it was something that was accessible to a large majority of students. I made sure to include an open ended question, to promote thinking among students and flexibility for creativity. There was not one, explicit answer, though there were many possible options. I also like that Poll Everywhere allows students to view other student's answers. This could serve as a model for struggling students and can help to spark an idea for those students who find this specific topic to be confusing.

Application Assignment #2 Kahoot!
https://play.kahoot.it/#/?quizId=985a6962-cdd5-4cfd-84a6-c905961ccf1f
This application assignment is a Kahoot that I created in which students are able to gain practice with their vocabulary words. The questions asked in this Kahoot quiz provide students with the definitions of words and then offer options of vocabulary words that could possibly match the definition. Each question only has one correct answer, and when the students answer a question correctly, they get points added to their overall score.
Kahoots are a fun and fairly easy way to get all students incredibly engaged in learning. To them, this type of assignment feels like a game, especially with the competitive component. This application also provides students with visual representations that go along with the questions, so when they answer them on their own devices, they can click on the correct symbol that represents the answer to the question. This is also a great way to encourage students who feel anxious about formal learning activities or who perform poorly on written, formal assignments.

Application Assignment #3 Character Trait Poster

For this application assignment, Mrs. Porter asked me to create a diagram that she could either blow up into a large poster, or use as an activity with her students. I decided to create something that the students could use to help organize their ideas pertaining to character traits. For this, students write the specific character trait that they are describing on the "shirt" of the person on the sheet, and then write something in a word bubble that would pertain to the trait. I also included extra lines on the bottom of the sheet for students to describe the trait in their own words.
This application assignment helps all students become more engaged in an assignment that could otherwise become boring, if they were not able to use their creativity. This activity allows for students to be flexible and creative in how they choose to describe the character trait. They can represent what they think this trait would "say" in whatever way they choose, and if this is not entirely helpful to them, they can be more specific in a description of the trait. This activity is based around the idea of different learning styles.

Application Assignment #4 Character Relationships Google Presentation
This application is a presentation that I created on Google Slides that is all about character relationships. As I mentioned before, this is something that the students that I work with are known to have difficulty in, so that is why I made this presentation. In this presentation, I defined character relationships and gave examples of the different types of relationships that they may find in the texts that they read.
This presentation helps all students, because it displays information that is accessible in many different forms. For students who use computer devices, they can pull up the presentation and have easy access to the internet to look up anything that may be unfamiliar to them. For students who work better on paper with pencil, the teacher can print out the slides, and include places for note-taking and ideas. This is also beneficial for students who need to read or see words in order to understand something. This type of application can be modified in many different ways to appeal to the needs of all students.

Application Assignment #5 Digital Poster
This application is a digital poster I created on postermywall.com. The poster displays information about three different Latin roots that the students are working on- "spect", "port", and "form". The poster provides the definition of these roots and then gives examples of words that they know, that have these roots in them.
I thought that this poster would be great for all students, because students can use it for reference as need be. They an either have it saved on their devices, and they can look at them from there, or the teacher can print out a larger one and hang it in the classroom. Or the teacher can allow both options, which is even better! This poster can help remind students of not only what the root means, but it also show them, by providing examples. This poster can support students as they learn about the many different Latin roots.
